The compound with the pleasant feel
TECACOMP® LF is a new compound containing leather fibres and polymers. The granules can be used in injection moulding and extrusion processes.
Products made of this material give the impression of a warm surface, have a pleasant feel, and have moisture regulation properties.
So the material is ideal, for example, for handles, trays and cases where a warm or velvety feel is required. The products have a vibrant surface that can be finished in different colours according to customers’ requirements.
By observing the temperature limits during production and processing, the characteristic leather smell is retained, reminding users that they are dealing with a natural product.
Because of the high proportion of leather fibres (up to 60%), customers quite rightly feel that they are choosing a product that – in addition to the previously mentioned advantages – is largely composed of a natural material, and so contributes to the conservation of resources.
TECACOMP® LF is ideal for use in products required to have a similar feel and appearance to leather, as well as for products which aim to be sustainable and re-use natural raw materials. The impression of real leather can be further enhanced by giving the product a grained surface.
This product is currently being further developed in collaboration with Bader GmbH & Co. KG, our supplier and development partner for the high-quality raw leather material. Ensinger is keen to work with its customers to devise further applications. On the basis of your requirement specifications, we will together assess the feasibility of your wishes, and if necessary, modify the formula. Leather is a natural product that is sensitive to temperature, and so polypropylene, polyethylene, TPE and TPU, as well as mixtures of these materials, are particularly suitable for use as a polymer base.
